‘Accountability’ can lead to hate
As a Jewish high school student, I felt that (this piece) on the definition of antisemitism misses the point: My friends and I are inundated with “Free Palestine” comments on our social media simply because we are Jewish.
In 2021, violent antisemitic attacks in Canada increased by over 700 per cent, coinciding with Israel’s war with Hamas. At the same time, I was told that as a Jew, I have no history in Jerusalem, which erases 3,000 years of Jewish indigenity in the land.
(You) may be able to draw a fine line between criticism of Israel’s policies and antisemitism, but when those criticisms lead to intimidating, even violent consequences for my community, we have a different experience.
