Definition doesn’t preclude criticism
In concluding that the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance definition of antisemitism stifles criticism of Israel, (the piece) misunderstands the example from the definition (it) relies on: The example of antisemitism referred to — “claiming that the existence of a state of Israel is a racist endeavour.” The key word here is “existence.” The IHRA targets those who would deny Israel the very right of existence, as opposed to suppressing critics of Israel’s various policies.
