Award-winning slopes
Lake Louise Ski Resort has been named Canada’s Best Ski Resort at the 2022 World Ski Awards — again. It’s the eighth time in the past decade the resort has landed the title, which is voted on by thousands of skiers and travel professionals around the globe. With skiable terrain spanning 4,275 acres over four mountain faces, the resort also landed in the Top 3 for World’s Best Freestyle Resort. Want to see what all the fuss is about? The Lake Louise Plus+Card ($129 for ages 13 and up) is available until Dec. 24. It provides three free days on the hill (on your first, fourth and seventh visits), 20 per cent off lift tickets on any other day at four resorts (Lake Louise, alongside Castle, Panorama and Red), and 10 per cent off rentals and lessons, plus discounts at nearby hotels.
Night flight
Billed as Canada’s largest free outdoor light festival, the Niagara Falls Winter Festival of Lights is on now until Feb. 20. Celebrating its 40th year, the event includes free family fun (including live music, magicians and face painters), nightly fireworks, and an hourly light show projecting images onto the falls. For a whole new vantage point, you can see the spectacle from the air with Niagara Helicopters’ “flightseeing” experience. Offered for the first time ever, the 12minute tour follows the Niagara River over the Canadian Horseshoe Falls, with departures nightly from sunset to 8 p.m.
Road trip
Alberta-based bus company Red Arrow is launching in Ontario in December, with six departures daily between Toronto and Ottawa (from $97 for the full journey). Unlike the former Greyhound bus route (which ceased operations in 2021), the Red Arrow will include scheduled stops in Scarborough and Kingston, making it a roughly five-hour trip. The coaches will feature premium single-row seating (for an extra 10 per cent), along with complimentary advanced seat selection, on-board entertainment, Wi-Fi, snacks and beverages.
Eau de Paris
Chanel’s iconic fragrances will be the focus of “Le Grand Numéro de Chanel“in Paris. The immersive exhibition will be on for a limited time (Dec. 15 to Jan. 9) — but so, too, is the venue. It will be inside the Grand Palais Ephémère, an architect-designed pop-up museum on the Champ-de-Mars that will also play host to Olympic events (including judo and wrestling) before being dismantled in 2024. Reserve free tickets at grand-numero.chanel.com.
