The Belmont Stakes will go ahead. Belmont Park reopened Friday after smoke from wildfires halted racing and training Thursday and forced the cancellation of the first day of the three-day festival. The air quality index for the Elmont, N.Y., track was 57 on Friday morning, a vast improvement from Wednesday when it reached the mid-200s. The 155th Belmont Stakes will run Saturday at 7:02 p.m., with Forte the 5-2 favourite.
